Feva Training
During the Feva training at Whitefriars SC in the 14th-15th September, me and my crew James Baddelly went camping with his mum (Rachel) for the weekend. Rachel was extremely generous to take us and was also extremely helpful when helping to rig our boat. We did some fitness and a lot of drills. This was also one of my first times training in a feva so this was all quite new to me, however by the end of the first day, I could already feel me and James improving. The main thing that we focussed on was communication between helm and crew, and I really feel that this aspect is super important to some good sailing.
The wind was very shifty and there wasn’t much of it, so it was often difficult to fly the spinnaker, leading to an extra challenge that we had to overcome.
In the afternoon of the first day, Rachel took me and James to the Circus Vegas. It was a very fun experience and a brilliant end to a great day.
On the second day, the morning was very similar to the previous day, with drills being the main focus, however in the afternoon, Whitefriars was kind enough to let us participate in the club racing, which was very fun and made us realise how much we had improved over the course of the weekend as we did quite well.
After this we packed up the feva and started the long journey home, certainly satisfied with what we had achieved.
I love sailing individually however I also really enjoy being part of a crew and the different challenges that they present, for example communication and being synchronised as a team.
