NS2 - Topper National Series

NS2 could have gone better for the CullenBros but as always we try and take the learnings from the event.

The biggest challenge was just that it was very windy and we are not the heaviest of sailors, but we learned a lot from the 2 days and will definitely be going into the next event with a new mind set.

NS2 was held at WPNSA on the 8th-9th of march and both days were forecast to be about 13 gusting 19 however got up to 23 gusting 27.

On the first day, I only competed in two of the three races, as it got a bit too much for me and then I had to go in – I was pretty broken from the first 2 races; mental note to manage energy levels and hydration! In the two races I did do, I came toward the back of the fleet and I wasn’t very happy about it when I got off the water.

On the second day, I went out with a reef, and this did mean I could keep the boat upright however everybody was a lot faster than me, so even though I competed in all three races, I still wasn’t able to manage the race and compete where I wanted to be.

So what can we change…I have had a look at sail settings and how I can set the sail to be more forgiving in heavier winds and we have also asked to get some training and tips from our friend Alex Jones as he has also struggled with the same issue and is now a very good sailor and he very kindly agreed. I am really looking forward to it and am super excited for NS3!
